BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Suspected cell phone thieves have been targeting MBTA passengers and police say, most recently, a woman was knocked to the ground at the JFK/UMass station and her iPhone 6 was taken.
Sakai Arty, a college student from Dorchester, says that last month a man tried to grab her iPhone as her train was approaching a stop.
"He looked like a normal guy sitting across from me and then he stood up before the doors opened," she said. "As soon as the doors opened he lunged for it."
That's the most common scenario, when the train doors open and lots of people are coming and going. But thieves will take any opportunity. Last summer FOX25 told you about a man accused of swiping an MBTA employees phone from customer service.
Personal Security Consultant Robert Siciliano says unless you need it, keep your phone hidden, not in your hands.
"Look at your iPhone like its $500 in cash. You wouldn't carry your cash in the open and you shouldn't carry your iPhone in the open," he said.
Arty says her phone fell and cracked, and the thief left without it. If it happened to her she says, "it could happen to anyone."
